The Dead Weather Concert

Last night Roger and I attended The Dead Weather concert at The Depot in Salt Lake City. Jack White of the White Stripes and The Raconteurs is now taking this year to tour with this new band he assembled in January of this year ('09). All of the band members are still a part of their former bands they just decided to come together and put out an album and tour this year. Jack is branching out and playing the drums in The Dead Weather instead of the guitar (for which he is most known for, he is regarded as one of the best guitarists of our generation). He is joined by Alison Mosshart of The Kills on lead vocals, Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age on guitar and keyboards and Jack Lawrence (Little Jack or LJ) of The Raconteurs on bass guitar. Here we are above waiting for the concert to start. The opening act was a punk band called, Tyvek . With song titles like, "flowers" and "sidewalk" you get the idea that they were a fun group. The drummer stood as he played, and they were tight but raw. The bass player was really good, I watched her most of the time. But I couldn't help but wish their set would end...I really wanted to get to The Dead Weather. Here I am posing in front of the stage before the concert started. It was a small venue and we could have been in the first or second row of the 'standing room only' ground floor, but we got excited about actually having a chair in the balcony. The place really started to feel electric as roadies came out in Jack White attire and started to set up. When the first roadie came out my heart stopped, I thought it was Jack, but quickly saw my mistake and settled down. The lights dimmed and the band walked out, the back drop was revealed the rock lights came on and the first song started...it is so hard to put into words how exciting it all was. From that first song we knew it was going to be not just a band playing on stage but a real SHOW. Above is Alison singing one of the first songs, she ROCKED!The band had so much confidence and was so polished and tight. It was such a blast! We were a little annoyed by some of the people around us, but you just have to forget it and focus on the band. At times I just wanted everyone to go away and let the band play just for me, but that is selfish. Let's just say there were die hard fans there (like Roger, ask him anything about the band and he can tell you AND he knows the songs, so cute!) and then there were the people there that just happened to be walking by and saw there was a concert and decided to join. Those are the annoying ones. Dancing right in front of your line of vision, talking loudly...you know the drill. I wanted to SEE the band, I wanted to watch them play and really experience it and it is hard when you have people around you who don't care as much as you do. Next time we are getting a VIP suite or standing on the ground floor...the picture above is Jack on the drums...ya, pretty much the coolest thing EVER!My favorite part of the concert was the song, Will There Be Enough Water?, where Jack came out with his guitar (the only song he plays guitar on) and sang at the same mic as Alison. It was A Mazing! The picture above was taken during that song. I haven't attended too many concerts, but it doesn't take an experienced concert goer to know that last night was special. The talent on stage just blew me away and the show they put on was awesome! A+ (for a taste of The Dead Weather click here)
